Science literacy week

On September 17th– 23rd 2018, the Science Literacy Week will be held across Canada. During this week, science activities will highlight outstanding science researchers and communicators from coast to coast.

This special edition is presented in partnership with the Canadian Space Agency. The theme of this scientific week is therefore space, but all scientific activities can be included in the program. These scientific outreach activities can be organized by researchers, students as well as research groups.

If you are interested in organizing such activities, please contact Charlène Rico at charlene.rico@umontreal.ca as soon as possible to obtain RQR support and other useful information.

You can also visit the event website.

Yet another great opportunity for scientific outreach!!!

RQR interuniversity course in reproductive biology

It is with great enthusiasm that we announce that an RQR-sponsored inter-university course will be available in the fall 2018 semester for students from all RQR partner universities. To register for the course, students must use the following course numbers according to their university:

      UdeM: PAA 6619-A      UQTR: BIP6028

     UQAM: BIO861X           INRS: SES9830

For Université Laval, supervisors must contact Mr. Dany Cinq-Mars dany.cinq-mars@fsaa.ulaval.ca prior to the start of the course in order to request that the course be credited for their trainee. Due to administrative issues, McGill and U de Sherbrooke trainees will not be able to register for the course this year, which we expect will be resolved by next year.  RQR trainees from all partner universities will also be permitted to audit the course free of charge if they are not able to (or would prefer not to) follow the course for credit (3 credits).  All trainees interested in either following the course for credit or in auditing the course are however required to contact Charlène Rico (charlene.rico@umontreal.ca) before August 15th in order to make the necessary arrangements.

In terms of logistics, all lectures will be transmitted by videoconference. Trainees may follow the lectures either by attending them where they are given (sites will include CRCHUM, Hôpital Ste-Justine and Faculté de Médecine Vétérinaire), or by videoconference at their home university.  Exact locations will be determined when we will know the number of registrants and their affiliations and preferences.  All lectures will be given in English. The preliminary program of the course can be consulted here.

Next RQR workshop

A reminder that the next RQR workshop will be held on August 29th on the following theme: Patents and Knowledge Transfer. The final program is available here. This workshop will be given mostly in French, but also in English for some parts. Visuals will all be in English. You can register now with Charlene Rico at charlene.rico@umontreal.ca.  The deadline to register is Friday August 24th, 2018.

Do you have suggestions for future scientific workshops? Feel free to contact Charlène Rico to communicate your requests and ideas.
