Bilan du Symposium 2017
The 10th edition of the RQR Symposium was held on November 14th and 15th 2017 at the Pavillon La Coop in StHyacinthe, and was preceded by a pre-Symposium workshop titled “Mitigating gender bias in science”.
Winners, best platform presentations:
Gender equality in science is a key issue that has received considerable recent attention, and many interesting points were raised that generated much discussion at the workshop. Thirty-six RQR scientists and trainees were in attendance. At the RQR Symposium, RQR director Dr. Derek Boerboom introduced the “new” RQR, mentioning aspects that will remain the same while presenting new initiatives that are being undertaken. During the Symposium, we also thanked Julie Blouin for her 7 years of service to the RQR. Julie received an honorary plaque from former RQR director Bruce D. Murphy.
In addition to the conferences from our three guest speakers, participants attended 17 platform presentations and 59 posters. Here are the students who particularly distinguished themselves:
As for all RQR Symposia, two RQR members were honored for their knowledge transfer efforts, highlighting the links they have built with reproductive research endusers. Here are the recipients of the 2017 RQR KT Awards:
- Researcher Award: Dr. Vardit Ravitsky, Université de Montréal (absent at the
award ceremony) - Student Award: Océane Albert, PhD student, McGill University

RQR scholarships
The RQR is proud to congratulate Courtney Smith (CRRD, McGill University), who started her Master’s degree last September under the co-supervision of Dr. Daniel Bernard (McGill University) and Dr. Puttaswamy Manjunath (Université de Montréal), for obtaining an RQR scholarship in the amount of $10 000.
Training workshop
A training workshop in partnership with BIO RAD will take place at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in St-Hyacinthe, main building room 2135, on December 8th 2017 from 10:30 am to 4 pm. Lunch will be provided by the RQR.

The FRQNT international internship program
The FRQNT has opened a 2017-2018 competition that will allow the RQR to expand its international network: the international internship program (reserved for MSc and PhD students of the network).
Act quickly, there are still some places available!
For this contest, the stay must begin no later than March 31, 2018.

Upcoming events...
Frontiers in Reproduction
The prestigious FIR Course will take place from April 28th to June 10th 2018 in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
The deadline for applications is January 18th 2018. Two RQR scholarships will be offered to participating RQR trainees (maximum $2 000). Find all of the details regarding the course and registration by clicking here.
Training workshop
The RQR will organize a confocal microscopy training workshop at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) in early 2018. Registration information will be announced shortly.
24h de science et plus
24 hours of science, “the Quebec event of science and technology”, will take place on May 12th and 13th 2018. This year’s theme will be: Movement.
